Need Health Statistics? CHIS Can Help!

As one of the largest health surveys in the United States, the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) is a scientifically reliable source of the most up-to-date information on key health topics. CHIS findings have proven to be very helpful to journalists researching background for stories on health policy and related health care issues in California.

CHIS generates new data every two years. The findings, first available for 2001, help create a better understanding of health trends, the use of healthcare services, and the prevalence of health conditions in different geographic areas of the state and among a wide variety of racial and ethnic groups.

Tens of thousands of households are interviewed in every survey, including major language groups in California, such as Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean. Thus CHIS data has good representation from every county and most large ethnic groups. Covering a broad range of health topics, the findings have proven to be invaluable for accurate and current reporting on health issues.
